Limiters and Liberators

Limiters and Liberators

During the Q&A of the second call of my "You Unstuck" series this past week, I sort of "accidentally" called on one of the participants. It's ironic this happened, because the caller shared that she did not have a question.... but, I sensed something in her voice -- a very slight hesitation.  So I stepped into my Coach role and pushed -- just a little.  "Have you had any challenges? How are you doing with the work so far?"  The participant quietly shared that although she didn't have any questions, she did have a Limiter. Limiters.  All of us have been on both ends of that equation.  We all have the ability to limit or liberate other people's dreams. As Helen Keller said, "Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." Today's blog is about helping you free your vision, liberate yourself from negativity and bring your dreams to life -- by defining who your Limiters are. Even if it's you. You know the Liberators of the world. They're the people who enthusiastically share information, connections, business leads and anything else they can to make your career and life better - without expecting anything in return. Of course, you want to return the favor precisely because they're not expecting it. Think about the people you know who are helping you liberate your life vision right now. When's the last time someone came though with something truly meaningful - and totally unexpected - for you? When's the last time you did a favor with absolutely no expectation that it be repaid? If that hasn't happened in a while, or possibly ever, maybe you're too busy being a go-getter - or a go-taker - instead of a Go-Giver.

Take this quiz to find out if you're a Liberator by looking at how well you do when it comes to giving rather than getting. Answer yes or no to the following:

In the past six months, I have:

  1. Offered in-depth career advice to someone
  2. Helped a neighbor with a project
  3. Donated time, money or items to a charity
  4. Assisted a total stranger who was struggling
  5. Connected someone with a doctor, teacher or coach
  6. Helped someone land a job
  7. Given a friend my time or energy with no string attached
  8. Volunteered honest feedback, even if it put me on the spot
  9. Listened deeply to someone in need
  10. Made someone laugh really hard

If you answered yes to 8 or more questions, good for you! You are definitely a Liberator and you're probably getting back even more than you're giving. If you answer yes to 4-7 questions, you're on your way to being a Liberator. Keep your focus on giving consistently and abundantly and you'll see what comes back in return. If you answered yes to 3 or fewer questions, it's time to start actively looking for ways you can be of service to others.

And that's my pledge to you and the purpose of this blog: to help you liberate your dreams and start living your best possible personal and professional life!

If you need more support in defining those Limiters and Liberators -- and making changes to change that equation in your life, you can STILL participate in my "You Unstuck" course. Simply reach out to me by email at and I will send you the first two recordings of our calls, and you can join us live for the last call on Wednesday, March 2nd.
