Today is Day 5 of my 365 days of Branding. Today's message is an easy one for you all to understand, but definitely worth a few minutes of contemplation. And it fits nicely into the "B" of our ABC's of Branding. Today's B is for Branding Blocks. Usually when I talk about branding blocks, I'll be referring to them like building blocks. These will be the little nuggets of wisdom on branding that will build your solid foundation and set you up for real success. Today's branding block, however, is one that can BLOCK your successful message and image. Don't send mixed messages!
The other day I saw a bumper sticker that said, "Honk if you love peace and quiet!" While the irony was definitely worth a chuckle, the deeper message of backward branding stuck with me. How often do we say one thing, but really mean something else? Even simple things, like having a contact page with no contact information (and only an inquiry box for questions and comments). While I understand the reasoning for that set up, you have to admit that a contact page should have contact information. If it doesn't, let's call it something else, like inquiries.
That's just one very small (but useful) example, of course. Stop today and spend a few minutes. Where in your products, website or messaging are you UNbranding yourself or sending messages that don't quite connect.
Tune in tomorrow to learn more about brick-by-brick branding and how to continue your everyday effort to set yourself apart from the competition and appeal to your best clients, just by being you!
