Habituation vs. Inspiration! By Libby Gill

Today’s Risk Taker’s Tip is taken right out of my best selling book, You Unstuck. On February 16, I’ll be leading a great course on how to get unstuck and moving for 2011. Details below – but first, the tip: Risk-Taker’s Tip: Habituation is the brain’s decreased response to repetitive activity or stimuli. That’s why you barely notice if you drive the same way to work every day, but if you take an unfamiliar route, you’re far more aware of your surroundings. So shake things up by taking your home office to a coffee shop or meeting a friend for a jog instead of a cocktail. Let's remember the thought behind that great poem by Robert Frost, sometimes the road less traveled can make all the difference. Okay, if you're ready for a new road for 2011, here’s a brief outline of the course:

• Week #1: Clarify a bold vision for success in both of your personal and professional life. This is not the same old "goal-setting," but a powerful process of transformed guaranteed to create lasting change.  • Week #2: Simplify the most direct route to reach your vision by identifying and eliminating excuse-making, removing obstacles and building a team of "Liberators"  • Week #3: Execute your action plan against measurable milestones. No more thinking about taking action, now is the time to start doing it. Once you've mastered my "Escalating Risk Hierarchy" and learned the secret to combining risk-taking with relaxation, you'll be on your way.
