In my last branding course, I worked with an executive recruiter who knew that her website was losing her business every day. What she wanted to do was establish herself as the DC area’s premier recruiter. After spending a few minutes reviewing her website, I asked, “Why is there a butterfly dead center on your homepage?” Moreover, I asked her to consider that her homepage was cluttered and appeared amateurish. Finally, I felt strongly that potential clients almost needed a private detective to figure out what she did for a living. All of this was powerful for the client to hear, but daunting to figure out, but honestly, fixing the website wasn’t nearly as difficult once she had clarity around her message. After that she saw what she could do to enhance the visual appeal and finally put up a very clear call action inviting prospective candidates to contact her for a free skills assessment.
The site became so focused and her credibility story was so clear that the number of inquiries and client engagements increased by 30% in just four months. Plus, people were so impressed she began to get inquiries outside the DC area because she looked like such a big firm. That’s when she knew her website was telling her credibility story and it was backed up by a clear call to action.
